Bible Reading for September 11 (ONPP)
Isaiah 58 – 60, Psalms 68
Isaiah 58:1 – Isaiah implores us to be a faithful witness to God’s word and show others that this turning away from God and His precepts is detrimental to all our lives.
Isa 58:4 – (Matthew Henry) “A fast is a day to afflict the soul; if it do not express a genuine sorrow for sin, and do not promote a real mortification of sin, it is not a fast; …The fast that God has chosen consists in reforming our lives and undoing what we have done amiss”
Isaiah 58:13 – The BIG IF defines our destination. We make the choice to honor Jehovah God or not. If we do not accept Him as our God then we are still doomed to condemnation because of His Word.
Isaiah 59:1 – This reminds me of Elijah’s taunting of the prophets of Baal.
Isaiah 59:2 – It’s not God that has left the path that you are on, it is you who has abandoned God’s path for you.
Isaiah 59:4 – They don’t want justice because they are unjust, they don’t want truth because they speak lies.
Isaiah 59:14 – Is Isaiah prophesying about today’s time? Is today’s time the always time? The time where evil rules and the righteous are chastised? Is it because the righteous cave to the chastisement of the evil and stay quiet instead of proclaiming the good news of the availability of redemption from evil to eternal life as companion to God?
Isaiah 59:17 – Oh wow I did not realize that Ephesians 6:10–18 came from Isaiah.
Isaiah 59:19 – It is said that God warned Alexander, coming from Greece, not to attack Jerusalem and he did not attack it.
Isaiah 59:20 – The Redeemer is the one that can pay the debt that we owe because of our sin. This verse is very Messianic.
Isaiah 59:21 – Again, God makes a covenant by Himself. for those that repent. that His Word will not be lost to them or their descendants.
Isaiah 60 – This chapter stretches into the Millennial Reign of Jesus to the City of New Jerusalem.
