Bible Reading for November 9 (ONPP)
Daniel 1 – 2, Psalms 118
Daniel 1:1 – This would be around 556 B.C.
Daniel 1:12 – Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah followed God’s directions in faith and God honored them. Though Daniel may have been in the leadership role he and the others were in one accord to honor God.
Daniel 2:1 – This from Matthew Henry: “Some read it, and in the second year, (the second after Daniel and his fellows stood before the king), in the kingdom of Nebuchadnezzar, or in his reign, this happened;” Though he does give other options of explanation.
Daniel 2:12 – This king had the ultimate say so, always, and was not bound by any rule. If this happened after Darius came to rule then the command could not be changed because of the law of Meads & Persians.
Daniel 2:18 – Daniel was trying to save himself and his friends by honoring Jehovah.
Daniel 2:24 – When Daniel receives God’s revelation he intercedes for all the “wise men”.
Daniel 2:28 – Daniel gives God the full glory for this revelation.
Daniel 2:38 – The king rules over all the people in undisputed authority.
Daniel 2:39 – Each successive kingdom (possibly more than one ruler each) will be stronger but with less authority.
Daniel 2:40 – The kingdom of iron or as we could call it the Iron Age is physically is stronger than the other metals mentioned but we see the many nations that take authority over may parts of the earth.
Daniel 2:41 – And now we come to the feet and toes part of clay and part iron. This clay may represent the silicon we use in electronics and thus the Computer Age where we all have influence through the World Wide Web and our leaders are supposed to look to us for guidance because we are the ones that have the authority to keep them in power in the US. This gives some the advantage of the squeaky wheel to be catered to by our leadership because they make frequent contact to them. Unfortunately many people do not recognize their ability to sway the leadership and do not communicate to them.
Daniel 2:42 – The US had a strong Constitution and national government but it can be changed by the people at any time. Even the smallest crack in leadership can cause it to shatter a leaders respect and position.
Daniel 2:44 – the kingdom of God is at hand.
Daniel 2:46 – Daniel did not tell the king not to worship him because he had already told the king that God was superior and in verse 47 Nebuchadnezzar give God the glory and honor deserved.
Psalms 118:22 – Jesus was rejected by the Pharisees and Sadducees while David was rejected by Saul and left out in the field by his father.
