Bible Reading for May 19 (ONPP)
II Kings 10 – 12, Psalms 119
II Kings 10:30 – Jehu receives an earthly prize for fulfilling God’s curse on Ahab’s family but Jehu’s heart was not to worship God but to worship the golden calves.
II Kings 11:1 – This woman has been assigned to do Satan’s bidding in trying to cut off the line of David to the Messiah. God saw that this was not to be. No matter how bad the people in the line to Jesus get, God keeps the line whole and unbroken.
II Kings 12:2 – It does matter how you are raised but it is not a guarantee that you will follow that instruction. Joash did take the instruction of Jehoiada to heart and follow it all his days.
II Kings 12:3 – The people did not take the instruction of the priests to heart and did not worship God at Jerusalem.
II Kings 12:15 – An honest worker does not need overseeing. They will do the job necessary and only take what is required for the work.
II Kings 12:18 – This one thing is recorded here showing that even though Joash was faithful to God his heart became fearful and did not know to trust God for the safety of God’s people, city, and house.
Psalms 119 – As we obey the little that we do understand, the more God enlarges our capacity to understand. Those that refuse to believe the bible also refuse to yield to its requirements. If I want to live disobediently I will manipulate my time and obfuscate my need, so that I will not have time to read the Bible. The Word of God surfaces those things in your life that are not right. When I obey the truth God purifies my heart.
Psalms 119:1–>34, 165
We need to read these slowly and understand what God is telling us.
Psalms 119:16, 24, 35, 47, 70, 77, 92, 143, and 174 – The psalmist said over and over again that he delights in God’s Law and Commandments.
Psalms 119:1 – ALEPH: Blessing for walking in the Law
Psalms 119:9 – BETH: Seeking God through scripture.
Psalms 119:17 – GIMEL: Mercy for righteous living.
Psalms 119:25 – DALETH: Depression searching for redemption.
Psalms 119:29 – Amen.
Psalms 119:33 – HE: Seeking God’s intervention in our life.
Psalms 119:41 – VAU: Trusting His Word through faith.
Psalms 119:49 – ZAYIN: Comfort in faith of Scripture.
Psalms 119:57 – CHETH: Faith in remembrance of the testimonies of God’s Word. How are we to remember without study?
Psalms 119:65 – TETH: We learn through failure and teaching. By failing we should learn that we need to study and by teaching we are required to study intently. The failure teaches us the results of sloth but study shows us the blessings of diligence.
Psalms 119:67 – Straying from God’s protection leads to affliction as Israel strayed from God’s worship and was taken into captivity but God was faithful and brought them back.
Psalms 119:73 – JOD: God is to be praised and glorified for His righteousness. I will trust in Him and His Word.
Psalms 119:81 – KAPH: Yearning for God to fulfill His plan shown in His Word.
Psalms 119:89 – LAMED: The Word of God is forever, forever past and forever future. God is faithful and does not change. How can you trust something that could change on a whim? His Commandments are solid and backed by His nature.
Psalms 119:97 – MEM: Adoration of the Word of God and His Commandments.
Psalms 119:113 – SAMECH: The Word of God is complete in relation to all things including grace, mercy, and judgement.
Psalms 119:121 – AYIN: Seeking God’s protection.
Psalms 119:129 – PE: Love of God’s word.
Psalms 119:133 – This should be the first thing that we ask the Lord before we start reading.
Psalms 119:137 – TZADDI: God is without fault and immutable.
Psalms 119:145 – QOPH: Plea for God’s presence in our lives.
Psalms 119:153 – RESH: Plea for mercy and reverence for His Word.
Psalms 119:161 – SHIN: Reverence and love for the Word and Law of God.
Psalm 119:169 – TAU: Teach me Your Word O Jehovah that I may praise You!
