John 19 – 21, Psalms 114
John 19:2 – A victor’s crown worn by the leader of a victorious army or an Olympic champion was made of laurel leaves. It is fitting to give Jesus this crown for He must suffer and die before receiving championship status.
John 19:9 – Did Pilate know of the prophesy of the Messiah’s coming? His place of birth?
John 19:15 – The priests were so involved in politics they would not recognize God as king much less His Son. Israel has continually fought against God’s rule and finally rejected Him as King in I Samuel 8:5–7.
John 19:18 – A prophecy fulfilled from Isaiah 53:12.
John 19:24 – A prophecy fulfilled from Psalms 22:18.
John 19:27 – Even though Jesus had other bothers, He gave John the responsibility to take care of His mother possibly because the brothers had not believed that He was the Christ.
John 19:28 – A prophecy fulfilled from Psalms 22:15 and Judges 15:18.
John 19:33 – A prophecy of the unblemished lamb and from Psalm 34:20 fulfilled.
John 19:34 – A prophecy fulfilled from Zechariah 12:10.
John 20:9 – Jesus had told them that He must be crucified and rise on the third day. Matthew 20:19, Mark 8:31, mark 9:31, Mark 10:34, Luke 18:33, Luke 24:7, and Luke 24:46.
John 20:29 – The blessing that Jesus is talking about is available for you! Believe the witnesses that wrote about these events, believe the scholars that diligently searched the truth about these events, and believe God that gave others the prophecies of these events. Abraham believed God and it was counted to him as righteousness. Believe in the name of the only begotten son of God and be redeemed from unbelief.
John 21:3 – Jesus had told Mary to tell the disciples to go to Galilee and wait on Him there. It looks like Peter got tired of waiting and went back to work at his old profession at least this once. And six others followed his leadership.
John 21:11 – This little rock became a Sampson pulling in the net of fish weighing about 535 pounds that the seven of them could not.
John 21:15 – Simon do you love me more than fishing, or more than these friends? Jesus is asking Simon about agapaho love, love without measure, but Simon answers with fileho love, love as a brother or friend.
John 21:16 – Again Jesus is asking Simon about agapaho love, but Simon answers again with fileho love.
John 21:17 – This time Jesus comes down to Simon’s level with fileho and asks if Simon is His close friend. Simon again responds with I am your devoted friend, fileho.
