Bible Reading for July 4 (ONPP)
Esther 1 – 3, Proverbs 27
Esther 1:4 – King Ahasuerus was showing his pride in himself to all for six months as Hezekiah did to the Babylonian Envoys.
Esther 1:10–11 – Ahasuerus did not force the men to partake in the feast but he did not give his wife the same leeway of choice. He had kept what should have been his most prized possession safe for the previous six months but now, being drunk, called for her to be exhibited.
Esther 2:1 – So now Ahasuerus regrets giving the command for Vashti to appear where it should have been a request. He put away his wife because of his drunken state and cannot get her back.
Esther 3:6 – Haman had the same mindset that Memucan did to Vashti’s refusal to be paraded in front of the drunken princes. But Haman set his wrath not just one person but a whole group. This thought was not Haman’s alone but was also of Satan who wanted to cut off the line to the Messiah.
Proverbs 27:7 – Those that are filling themselves with themselves don’t hunger for the best in the Bible, that God sent His Son as a substitute for the payment of our debt in sin with relief from the suffering in Hell. When we are hungry for God’s Word even those things that reveal our sinfulness are sweet to us, helping us to better represent God’s perfect plan.
Proverbs 27:13 –
Proverbs 20:16 Take the garment of him who is surety for a stranger; and take a pledge from him for strangers.
Proverbs 27:17 – Men are good at keeping other men on their toes.
Proverbs 27:19 – You are responsible for your own thoughts.
