Psalms 119:27 Make me to understand the way of Your Commandments, and I will speak of Your wonderful works.
Bible Reading for July 12 (ONPP)
I Corinthians 7 – 9, Psalms 15
I Corinthians 7:2 – Marriage is only between one man and one woman.
I Corinthians 7:4 – If you are approached romantically by someone other than your spouse it is your spouse that would be the one to authorize any encounter. You, of course, have the first option to deny the encounter. This could conceivably apply to anything that could affect your body.
I Corinthians 7:9 – Inside marriage there is no sinful lust for the other. Outside of marriage there is covetousness of what is not given to you.
I Corinthians 7:12 – Paul is giving his opinion based on what he was taught from the scriptures. Jesus said in Matthew 19:6 “Therefore they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”
I Corinthians 7:14 – We see that David was expecting to see his first child with Bathsheba in Heaven. This verse scares me in that the children of the unbelieving that die before being able to receive the faith are not going to be in Heaven. This is something that many teachers do not comment on because of the sadness it brings up. But God’s grace is something that we can not put a limit on. We don’t know if the early death of a child of unbelieving parents falls into Hell’s torment or God’s mercy. Is the state of the parents’ belief based on their eternal destination or current unbelief? God does not tell us. We shouldn’t push the envelope of God’s grace as Paul says in Romans 6:1–2 – “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin so that grace may abound? Let it not be! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? “.
I Corinthians 7:16 – As Paul wrote in chapter 5 we are to be a witness for God to those who we encounter.
I Corinthians 7:19 – Keeping the commandments does not redeem a person from sin but doing so is a witness of God’s Lordship.
I Corinthians 8:1 – The hard part is charity. It is easy to be proud in knowledge. To temper knowledge with love is work.
I Corinthians 8:2 – Knowledge without Love is nothing.
I Corinthians 8:13 – That I do not offend my brother is the statement that we must take to heart. We are to be the example of Christ to their lives.
I Corinthians 9:5 – Paul is talking about instructive leading not physical force.
I Corinthians 9:10 – A working person or animal should not be kept from partaking in the return from the harvest. Even David divided the spoil with those that had to stay behind to guard the supplies.
I Corinthians 9:13 – The priests were supplied by the offerings so their work would not be interrupted.
I Corinthians 9:14 – As much opposed to living of the law for the law has no power over grace.
I Corinthians 9:18 – Paul wanted to be a witness that the gospel is freely given as his work in it is free and not a charge to the people.
I Corinthians 9:27 – Being a good witness to others keeps others from losing respect for the gospel.
