Bible Reading for February 20 (ONPP)
Leviticus 21 – 23, Psalms 44
Leviticus 21:2 – Close relationships are very important to God and the loss of that fellowship must have its time to be worked out.
Leviticus 21:4 – Leadership however is something that transcends relationships. God has put that person in the leadership position and that appointment is to be honored. The whole of the people and their needs are more important than the loss of a family member. This is why God did not allow Aaron to show mourning for the death of his two sons.
Leviticus 21:9 – The family members of the leadership are to be careful of what they do because they show a reflection of the leaderships relation to God as well as their guidance to their family and thus the people as a whole.
Leviticus 21:7 – A more direct relationship to Jesus as the sinless sacrifice. Not only was the lamb/bull to be without blemish but the priest offering it was also to be sanctified.
Leviticus 21:22 – Even though this person cannot perform the duties of the priest God still values him and provide sustenance.
Leviticus 22:11 – If a priest was to purchase the debt of a gentile or Israelite to be a servant then he is responsible to be the caregiver and thus the food provide to the priest would be acceptable to give to the servant.
Leviticus 22:27 – This practice gives the dam time to fully come into milk to provide that milk for the family and represents the week of creation including the day of rest.
