Psalms 119:133 Order my steps in Your Word; and do not let any iniquity rule over me.
Chronological Bible Reading for January 29
Genesis 48-50
Genesis 48:19 – Ephraim and Manasseh both had a tribe of the nation Israel come from them but the tribe of Ephraim is not mentioned in Revelation with the other tribes. This could be due to their actions recorded in Hosea ch 11–13. The tribe “Joseph” was mentioned in Revelation and probably included those descendants of Ephraim that still trusted God and maybe other children of Joseph if any were born after Israel’s death.
Genesis 48:20 – After their blessing I can just see Ephraim and Manasseh asking Israel:
Grandfather Israel; tell us about 11th great grandfather Shem the son of Noah.
Israel Responds:
Well children, I heard much about him from Grandfather Abraham, and my father Isaac but I was so glad to meet him when I was staying with your grandmother’s family. He told me about the times he met with Methuselah, and the conversations Methuselah had with Adam about the beginning, and Adam’s walks in the Garden of Eden, with God.
Tell us all about it grandpa!
Hey! Let’s get the scribes to write it down!
Yeah that would be great!
Well… In the beginning, God . . .
Genesis 49:4 – Ruben lost his birthright through his poor choices just like Esau.
Genesis 49:5 – Their cruel treatment of Shechem also lost them of the inheritance of the birthright.
Genesis 49:7 – Levi was scattered among the inheritance as priests and Simeon was cut off from Israel because Judah and Benjamin were given the land between them.
Genesis 49:8 – Judah however humbled himself and wanted to be the replacement for Benjamin’s perceived punishment thus his father deemed him worthy of the birthright being next oldest of the other three. All four of the sons were born of Leah, Jacobs first wife. Even though Laban tricked Jacob into marrying Leah, God honored that first marriage to show His plan for the family.
Genesis 49:10 – Now Jacob pronounces God’s choice of lineage toward the Messiah who is priest and king!
Genesis 49:16 – Dan also does not appear in the listing of the tribes of Israel in Revelation.
Genesis 50:24 – Joseph believes the promise that God gave Abraham and gives Israel a charge to fulfill when God calls them out of Egypt.
