Chronological Bible Reading for January 23
Genesis 32-34
Genesis 32:7 – Jacob, Jacob, Jacob did not God say that he would be with you. All this is unnecessary but it may convince Esau that you have changed.
Genesis 33:4 – See Jacob, God is with you, Esau has missed you and is happy that you have become rich without taking the portion of firstborn that he sold you for a bowl of soup.
Genesis 33:19 – Another instance showing that the land was not yet theirs in that Jacob (Israel) had to buy a piece of land to set up his tent.
Genesis 34:23 – The men of Shechem are planning to take all of Jacob’s flocks by intermarriage. This should not be surprising considering how Shechem thought of himself rather than others.
Genesis 34:25 – Their actions parallel the actions of Phinehas, the son of Eleazar when Israel began to fornicate with the daughters of Moab. Their motives however do not.
