Chronological Bible Reading for October 5
Matthew 4; Luke 4-5; John 1:15-51
Matthew 4:3 – Temptation to fulfill the needs of the flesh.
Matthew 4:4 – Jesus could have told Satan “Stones? Who needs stones?” And offering to Satan in His hand a cake of angel food. But He wanted to have Satan believe that his temptation could succeed.
Matthew 4:6 – Temptation to fulfill the pride of man. In quoting from Psalms 91 Satan does not start with verse 10 because he knows that it would remind Jesus of the evil he is about to encourage.
Matthew 4:9 – Temptation to take possession of the Earth without the suffering the sacrificial death that God has ordained.
Matthew 4:14 – A prophecy fulfilled from Isaiah 9:1–2.
Luke 4:1 – Jesus was tempted to ease the stress of His body, easily fulfill his destiny of kingship, and exercise His pride to have others worship Him by a miracle.
Luke 4:18–19 – Here Jesus reads from Isaiah 61:1–2 but does not finish verse 2 where we have divided it. This signifies that the rest of the verse speaking of the day of vengeance of God is not part of His duty at this time. That comes in the future as revealed in Revelation.
Luke 4:21 – A prophecy fulfilled from Isaiah 61:1–2.
Luke 4:40 – Jesus had healed on the Sabbath and after sunset (a new day) and all night long the people brought many to be healed.
Luke 5:16 – We must sometimes step away from the hard work to refresh ourselves.
Luke 5:19 – Letting God and the Church know of your problems shows faith that He is able to get you through them and that they will support you through them.
Luke 5:24 – Where the Old Testament prophets had an early confirmation of their prophecies to support the latter occurrence of a prophecy, Jesus used a latter miracle to support the earlier one of the forgiveness of sin.
John 1:17 – Genesis 6:8 Noah found grace, Genesis 19:19 Lot found grace, Genesis 39:4 Joseph found grace, Exodus 33:12 Moses found grace, Ruth 2:2,10 Ruth found grace, I Samuel 20:3 David found grace, II Samuel 14:22 Joab found grace, Luke 1:28 Mary found grace, Acts 4:33 The apostles found grace, and for us Acts 5:11 we find grace that all of which came through Jesus Christ.
John 1:23 – John quotes Isaiah 40:3 as the answer to their question.
John 1:27 – John knows that the Christ, exists from eternity to eternity.
John 1:31 – John did not know that it was his cousin Jesus that would be the Christ slain from the foundation of the world. John just knew that whomever the spirit lit upon was the Christ.
John 1:45 – Every new disciple is bound to make mistakes. It is by God’s grace that we can learn and be lifted above our mistakes. Jesus had found Phillip and had come to him. Jesus was of course born in Bethlehem and was the supposed son of Joseph being really the Son of God.
John 1:46 – Did Phillip realize that his encouragement came from Isaiah 2:3?
