II Timothy 2:15 Study earnestly to present yourself approved to God, a workman that does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth.
Chronological Bible Reading for June 16
I Kings 9; II Chronicles 8
I Kings 9:4–5 – The BIG If again. If Solomon keeps true to God’s Law then his descendants will always have a man on the throne. This is a fellowship promise not a salvation promise. Salvation does not depend on keeping the Law it is given by Grace and inspires us to keep the Law.
I Kings 9:6 – God continues His description of the BIG IF that HE gives Solomon. This is not only for Solomon but his descendants also. Salvation is not inherited, it is given by grace through faith.
I Kings 9:6–7 – Here is the broken fellowship of the BIG If. The results of turning your back to God and living a life dedicated to you.
I Kings 9:8–9 – Why does destruction come to “God’s people”? Because they turn away from God and His precepts becoming “not God’s people” even though they are supposed to represent God. They worship other gods and even themselves. When we turn away and commit sin we have put ourselves in more importance than God therefore breaking the first commandment before any other.
I Kings 9:12 – We do not have any indication why these cities were displeasing to Hiram. It is thought that they may not have fit in with his plan for Tyre as a trading center.
II Chronicles 8:2 – So Solomon received the cities back and filled them with the children of Israel.
II Chronicles 8:8 – The command of God to utterly destroy those in Canaan as described in Deuteronomy 20:16–18, Exodus 23:32–23, Exodus 34:12–13, Numbers 33:52, Deuteronomy 7:16, Deuteronomy 7:2–5, and Deuteronomy 12:2–3 was disobeyed. How many times does God need to remind them? We are unjust and unrighteous we must continually be reminded of our failing or our pride in ourselves will overtake us. It is a good thing that God in all His foresight provided a propitiation for or sin in the sacrifice of His only begotten Son, Jesus the Christ.
