II Timothy 2:15 Study earnestly to present yourself approved to God, a workman that does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth.
Chronological Bible Reading for December 21
Hebrews 1-6
Hebrews 1:5 – The word translated begotten, means to procreate or figuratively to regenerate. This is not what creation is. Creation does not have a kinship to the Creator, it is just His work. In Psalms 2:7, a messianic Psalm, the translated word is used to specifically to show lineage to God. In John 1:14 the word means “only born”. Acts 13:33 specifically references Psalms 2:7, not by number because the oldest manuscripts did not divide in chapters and verses.
Hebrews 1:6 – Again this First–born is a procreative, regenerative part of God that the angels are to worship.
Hebrews 1:8 – This is even a more direct statement of the Son being fully God. If Jesus was anything besides God then having the angels worship Him would be sinful according to the first commandment.
Hebrews 1:14 – The angels are to minister to people that have trusted in God’s plan of redemption. Satan must not have liked that idea when he rebelled.
Hebrews 2:6–7 – A direct reference to Psalms 8:4–6. This is directed toward Adam being in charge of the garden and the animals. Yet after Adam’s sin he lost the title to this world and became subject to its processes.
Hebrews 2:16 – There is no savior for angels. They either disobeyed and were sentenced to the Lake of Fire or chose to obey and be ministers of God to us. We have that savior through His choice of being a child of Abraham.
Hebrews 3:7–8 – Yes, Today is the day that makes the most difference in your life. Jesus was born of a virgin as the Son of God, lived according to all the commandments of God and not rejecting them. He had no sin, was crucified for ours, and arose the third day for our justification. Turn away from rejecting God and put your faith in His work of salvation that is a free gift to all who will accept it.
Hebrews 3:10 – It grieved God that the generation that left Egypt turned away from the path of salvation that He offered.
Hebrews 3:15 – Open your heart to God’s message, that He gave through the prophets, and His Son to receive the gift of salvation. It is written Abraham believed God and it was counted to him for righteousness. (Romans 4:3) & (Genesis 15:6)
Hebrews 3:19 – The same is true for Heaven and eternal life, when you don’t believe in the value of something you don’t buy it, When you don’t believe in a law or the consequences thereof you do not follow it.
Hebrews 4:1–11 – God’s rest thru faith.
- Fear of not reaching rest
- Gospel preached to both them and us
- Those lost because of unfaithfulness
- Belief precedes rest
- Rest is available to believers
- Today is the day to trust Him
- Rest is His and not from our works
- Keep vigilant in trusting Him
There is a upcoming rest for those that believe and follow God’s direction as Joshua and Caleb did. Today do not harden your hearts but make your determination to trust God’s Word toward His rest.
Hebrews 4:7 – Again today is the day of salvation because the gospel of God’s redemptive rest is given to you.
Hebrews 4:12 – The word for soul describes the breath and human life, while the word for spirit describes the rational mind and immortal life.
Hebrews 5:12 – How can a person teach unless they have first studied and learned. If you do not study then you are only teaching what little you understand without understanding fully.
Hebrews 6:4–6 – Man’s pride is so great that he though hearing and receiving God’s Word would turn away toward destruction as the seeds that fell in the rocky soil or among weeds where they did not flourish but died.
Hebrews 6:18 – God can not lie.
Hebrews 6:19 – Our hope in eternal life through the resurrection of Jesus is our anchor that holds us in place.
