II Timothy 2:15 Study earnestly to present yourself approved to God, a workman that does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth.
Chronological Bible Reading for December 20
1 Peter 1-5
I Peter 1:2 – You can tell that Peter’s writing is different from Paul’s yet they are both bringing the same message of salvation.
I Peter 1:12: So Peter is saying that the prophets of the Old Testament were there to give us a witness of not seeing the fulfillment of God’s redemption, and still believing in faith that it was to come. Whereas, we can trust, in faith, the testimony of those that were witnesses of the life, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
I Peter 1:13 – Learn the truth of the gospel and the scriptures so that you may not stumble when confronted with false interpretations. Your knowledge of God’s Word is the defense to protect your heart from their deceiving nature.
I Peter 1:17–22 – Our works are the result of our salvation not the cause. God’s judgement is for rewards to the redeemed not the reward of redemption as in Ephesians 2:8–9. We can do nothing to earn redemption but it is available to us as a free gift to those who repent and believe.
I Peter 1:23 – Born of Grace incorruptible not works that is corruptible.
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God,
Ephesians 2:9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.
I Peter 2:1–2 – Let your actions reveal that you have been chosen as a servant of God, learning the ways that He has chosen for you by studying the Word.
I Peter 2:2 – We begin with seeing our sin and need of salvation, then entrusting in what God has given us in salvation, and grow to be able to see God’s love for us even though we continue to fall short of His plan for us. As we grow in the scripture we should also grow in the unconditional love for others knowing full well that we also need that love from God. As our knowledge increases we begin to see the falsehoods Satan lays as a trap for us and others.
I Peter 2:4 – Paul is referencing the “Stone that the builders rejected became the Stone which the whole temple is lined up with.”
I Peter 2:5 – We then are to be leveled and plumbed to that Corner Foundation Stone and that is what God is doing for us as we grow to understand His Word and His Plan for us.
I Peter 2:7 – Jesus and God’s plan of salvation is rejected by those that do not want to believe in God’s Grace but feel that their righteousness will make them worthy.
I Peter 2:25 – This reflects the meaning of the two scriptures below:
Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, each one to his own way; and Jehovah has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
Psalms 119:176 I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek Your servant; for I do not forget Your Commandments.
I Peter 3:1 – The believing wife subjects herself to Christ and is a witness to her family.
I Peter 3:7 – The believing husband subjects himself to Christ and is a witness to his family.
I Peter 3:17 – Jesus suffered for doing good and not evil should not we also that proclaim to follow Him?
I Peter 4:17 – We are to judge each other in a Godly manner restoring each to Christ’s path.
I Peter 5:2 – God has given the elders of the church that position because of their understanding of the gospel and even if incomplete, for we will not be complete until we are with Him, they should not shrink from the duties that God has given them.
