II Timothy 2:15 Study earnestly to present yourself approved to God, a workman that does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth.
Chronological Bible Reading for August 7
Jeremiah 1-3
Jeremiah 1:5 – God knows us before we were formed in our mother.
Psalms 139:13 For You have possessed my inward parts; You have covered me in my mother’s womb.
Jeremiah 1:7 – Even a little child speaking the Lord’s word can be effective. “Daddy please come to church with us.” Because it is not the child’s words that are effective, it is the Lord’s Word.
Jeremiah 1:11 – This rod could have very well represented Aaron’s rod because it brought forth almonds. Numbers 17:8 This rod of leadership authorized by God is showing Jeremiah that the things to come are brought about by Jehovah.
Jeremiah 1:17 – As Moses went before Pharaoh, so now Jeremiah must go before his kinsmen telling them of the destruction to come.
Jeremiah 1:18 – God is going to protect Jeremiah from injury of assault from the king and all the people.
Jeremiah 2:8 – Romans 3:10 There is none righteous no not one.
Jeremiah 2:11 – Imagine a business that produced and sold cars change their business plan to produce and sell cardboard cutouts of cars at the same price point. The cars previously constructed did the job of transportation that was needed and looked good. The new cutouts do not provide transportation but on the surface they may look good. This company will falter and collapse due to the unprofitability of selling cardboard at new car prices.
Jeremiah 2:13 – Instead of building a cistern with impermeable materials lets dig a hole in the sand and put the water there. We can no more hold on to our own salvation than sand can contain water. God flows out living water to His people and holds onto His people unto salvation. God does change the hearts of those He chooses as evidenced in Hosea 1:9–10 and repeated in Romans 9:25–26.
Jeremiah 2:14 – Israel was to be a nation of priests to bring God’s Word to the whole world.
Jeremiah 2:19 – Psalms 111:10a The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
Proverbs 1:7a The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.
Judah has gone the way of Israel in that they lost their fear of God and His penalty for sin. Their loss of fear has also made them loose the knowledge of God’s mercy and grace that would save their nation from invasion.
Jeremiah 2:21 – God had given the nation the Laws that would keep them pure and the way to atone for the breaking of those Laws that the nation would not become lost. The nation forgot the Laws and atonement because they lost the fear of God’s punishment.
Jeremiah 2:23 – These of Judah are as the rich young man in Matthew 13 and Mark 10 who had said that he kept the commandments of God but yet was unwilling to follow God’s Son.
Jeremiah 3:1 – So it is said in Deuteronomy 24:1–4. God tells them this to try to instill the fear they need to turn away from false idols and worship. God also shows us that He is merciful to purchase us back in Hosea.
Jeremiah 3:4 – Because Judah had left the worship of God they have left the rewards that God had for them. This troubling time still has not brought them to humility and repentance of their actions.
Jeremiah 3:10 – During Josiah’s reign when all the high places were defiled and torn down, open idol worshiping was banned, and the biggest Passover celebration ever was observed, the heart of the people was not aligned toward God but to their own pride and selfishness.
Jeremiah 3:12 – God is calling Israel who was not double faced but had wholly turned away from Jehovah to return to Him and be blessed. God hates the lie of Judah more than the open rejection of Israel. Thus Judah was taking on God’s name without putting His Law in their heart. Should we turn away from God and ignore His worship and sin so we would be better off when we turn away from that sin and rejection to give our hearts fully to Him? No, we should be a remnant that continually honors God from our heart toward our deeds so that we may be an honorable witness to His Grace and Mercy. Neither should we ignore our duties as a Christian in the citizenship of our nation not following the dictates of a political party but leading those around us toward the plan that God has designed for our country.
Jeremiah 3:13 – God’s BIG IF again. Turn away from your sin and come unto Me and I will give you rest, honorable teachers, many descendants, and restitution with Judah.
Jeremiah 3:16 – The last line implies that the Ark of the Covenant was rebuilt several times. This is entirely possible based on the times that the temple was invaded.
