Bible Reading for April 28 (ONPP)
II Samuel 5 – 8, Psalms 101
II Samuel 5:19 – David is still trusting in God. He is not letting his pride, in his position of king, swell up to make these decisions without God.
II Samuel 5:21 – In I Chronicles 14:8 it shows that David had the images burned.
II Samuel 5:23 – His previous victory did not change his dependence on God.
II Samuel 6:1 – David is preparing a victory parade. His pride is beginning to swell because he did not enquire of God’s approval.
II Samuel 6:9 – When something bad happens you do not need to stay away from God, you need to get closer to God and do what He instructs. Matthew Henry says that David should have reacted this way, “Let the ark come to me, and I will take warning by this to treat it with more reverence.” and Henry goes on to say that David was halting the movement of the ark until he could better prepare for it.
II Samuel 6:13 – David has now started correctly with the ark being carried by poles held by Levites, not on a cart. Also David is honoring the days of creation by going six steps and then offering a sacrifice to worship God for this new beginning of spiritual growth in Israel.
II Samuel 6:23 – Saul’s house will not have an heir to the throne even through David.
II Samuel 7:2 – David’s heart toward God is pure in this but God wants to delay the construction so that the people will know that God is to be looked to for provision in peace time as well as war.
II Samuel 7:6 – God is showing here that He does not just reside at the tabernacle but goes along with His people to lead them where He wants them to be.
II Samuel 7:12 – Jehovah told David that the Messiah would come from his line. Yes God also plans for Solomon to build a house for the ark.
II Samuel 7:13 – Jesus said that He was going to prepare a place for us.
II Samuel 8:3 – Israel had extended its borders from the Mediterranean to the Euphrates.
II Samuel 8:4 – David followed God’s command to not rely on the strength of chariots but on Him.
