Psalms 119:133 Order my steps in Your Word; and do not let any iniquity rule over me.
Bible Reading for April 14 (ONPP)
Ruth 1 – 4, Psalms 89

Ruth 1:1 – The word Bethlehem means house of bread. This irony of being a famine in the land of the house of bread should not be lost. Also this house of bread is the birthplace of the Bread of Life the Lord Jesus, the Christ.
Ruth 1:2 – The name Mahlon means “sick” and the name Chilion means “pining, destruction: – consumption, failing” or as described to me “weak”.
Ruth 1:6 – So Naomi was working in the fields to survive.
Ruth 1:12 – Naomi knows that when she returns that there may not be a redeemer willing to take up Elimelech’s line for inheritance through a woman from Moab.
Ruth 1:16 – Now Ruth makes the step of faith based on what she has heard about God and His goodness. She finds it to be better place with Naomi and her people than to be without her God. Ruth has put her faith in Jehovah.
Ruth 1:20 – Naomi had lost her husband and her two sons. She is bitter about where her life has taken her. The name Mara means bitter as in Exodus 15:23.
Ruth 1:21 – Just as Joseph became a slave in Egypt and was raised to save his family Naomi has returned to Bethlehem not knowing that Jehovah has meant for good what she sees as evil.
Ruth 2:8 – Since the whole city was abuzz with Naomi’s return it is logical that Boaz knew of her plight and was happy to help where he could. Even though Boaz made it easy for Ruth to glean he did not just hand her grain. He knew that when someone puts their time into a project it is more valuable to them. He did though invite her to eat with them since she was family.
Ruth 2:18 – This goes to the command in Deuteronomy 25:4 “don’t muzzle the ox when he treads out the grain”. Also quoted in I Corinthians and especially I Timothy where it adds ‘The laborer is worthy of his reward.”
Ruth 2:20 – Naomi begins a plan for the provision of her daughter–n–law and herself.
Ruth 2:23 – Ruth proves her worth as her mother–n–law’s caregiver.
Ruth 3:3 – Naomi is setting up the proposal to Boaz to be the redeemer of Elimelech and a new husband to Ruth.
Ruth 3:10 – Ruth was showing dedication to Naomi and God’s plan of redemption.
Ruth 3:15 – Boaz is putting his money where his mouth is so to speak. His investment is the down payment for his future action. This is also true of God in that He lays upon His chosen His Holy Spirit as the investment in their redemption.
Ruth 4:3–6 – Boaz is being a little coy here. He is setting up the near kinsman with the details that that he will like. The near kinsman should have known that Ruth was part of the redemption because Naomi’s plight was well known in Bethlehem. It looks as if the near kinsman was only wanting to increase his holdings and not raise another’s family.
Ruth 4:7 – He must be saying you walk in my place. But this however is a curse on the one that would not redeem from Deuteronomy 25:9–10.
Ruth 4:12 – Because of Ruth’s commitment to God and Boaz’s righteousness the people gave them a blessing that God was using to continue the lineage to Jesus.
Ruth 4:14 – God has also provided us with a redeemer, Jesus, God’s only begotten son who is able to ransom us because He does not owe the price for sin but has paid it for us. Obed also did not have to pay for his inheritance himself but it was provided for him by another as well as himself as he was provided life by Jehovah.
Ruth 4:18 – Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Judah, Pharez, Hezron, Ram, Amminadab, Nahshon, Salmon, Boaz, Obed, Jesse, and David, 14 generations
Psalms 89:4 – Yes! David’s throne is established for all generations through Jesus. God keeps His promises!
Psalms 89:33 – God’s mercy is available to those who trust him.
Psalms 89:34 – God does not change. Malachi 3:6
Psalms 89:47 – Was this psalm going through Jesus’s mind when He was crucified?
Psalms 89:48– Some would say that Enoch and Elijah will have not seen death but I believe that they are to be the two witnesses in Revelation.
