Bible Reading for May 14 (ONPP)
I Kings 19 – 22, Psalms 115
I Kings 19:18 – God always plans ahead. Nothing surprises God. He has everything ready to fulfill His plan. He does not change but man can turn away from Him. Therefore the BIG IF is always in affect for each one of us.
I Kings 19:21 – Elisha shows that He is giving up everything to follow God and God’s prophet.
I Kings 20:4 – Ahab is such a weak king. His worship of Baal has separated him from the power of Jehovah. Yet for the people and as a witness to Ahab, God delivers defeat to the mighty army of Ben–haded.
I Kings 20:26 – Now God is about to defend His honor in a witness to Ben–hadad and Ahab.
I Kings 20:42 – God did not want Ben–hadad to get away with saying that God was limited to where He could perform His will so He set the punishment devoted for Ben–hadad onto Ahab as well.
I Kings 21:2 – Ahab thinks that he has defeated Ben–hadad and is safe. Ahab thinks in his heart “Who does this prophet think he is anyway? I’m going to relax, and. Hey! This vineyard is just what I need for a herb garden.” But as I said earlier Ahab is a weak king but he still covets his neighbors land.
I Kings 21:7 – Jezebel however was evil and crafty. To have power herself she had to make Ahab look like he was strong.
I Kings 21:20 – As David sinned by having Uriah killed and marrying Bathsheba so has Ahab sinned in taking the life of Neboth and taking his land thus supporting Jezebel’s actions.
I Kings 21:27 – Ahab, because of his weakness, believes Elijah and like David repents of his actions.
I Kings 22:15 – It is interesting that Micaiah does not specify which king just implies that it may be Ahab.
Psalms 115:1 – Our true thankfulness is not to our possessions, ourselves, Mom, Dad or others but be thankful to God!
Psalms 115:17–18 – God told Adam that the penalty for disobedience is death. We all have rejected God’s plan for us during our lives and deserve the penalty. Our sinful nature does not allow us to praise Him and will not in eternity. God however knew, knows about this and has provided His path of redemption to life through the sacrifice to death of His Son Jesus to pay the penalty of disobedience. When we accept His offer of life we will be able and willing to bless Him forevermore!
