Psalms 119:133 Order my steps in Your Word; and do not let any iniquity rule over me.
Bible Reading for January 30 (ONPP)
Exodus 17 – 19, Proverbs 5
Exodus 17:2 – Here we go again. God wants us to come to Him and ask for His provision not gripe and complain about not having any. This complaining sounds like people that have no hope for their life. Christ is the hope in life and provision for our salvation.
Exodus 17:6 – This is the first time that Moses smites this rock to get water so that the Israelites will live. Jesus was smitten once and only once to give us living water that springs from our soul. All we have to do is just ask.
Exodus 17:12 – Ecc 4:8 There is one alone, and there is not a second; yea, he has neither son nor brother; yet there is no end to all his labor; and his eyes are not satisfied with riches; and he says , For whom do I labor and take good from my soul? This is also vanity. Yes, it is an evil business.
Ecc 4:9 Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labor.
Ecc 4:10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he does not have another to help him.
Ecc 4:11 Again, if two lie together, then they have warmth; but how can one be warm alone?
Ecc 4:12 And if one overthrows him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
Exodus 17:14 – Remember this when we come to the books of Samuel.
Exodus 17:15 – Here is another name for God, Jehovah Nissee – Jehovah My Banner. Moses held up the Rod of God as a banner in the battle.
Exodus 18:21 – This is a good example of having small groups such as Sunday School and Discipleship Classes where more individuals can get one to one interaction with the leadership. But having the correct leadership is the most important step.
Exodus 18:27 – Moses’ father–in–law took back with him the description of what God had done for Israel and surely it was widespread over the next forty years.
Exodus 19:5 – The BIG If is here for the nation of Israel. The successful pursuit of the BIG If always has a positive response from God.
Exodus 19:6 – God wants Israel to be a kingdom of priests. What priest is useful without a congregation? If the whole of Israel is to be priests then the others “gentiles” would be the congregation. The place where they were to settle is a hub of trade between Europe, Africa and Asia.
Exodus 19:8 – This goes back to Exodus 15:26 at the waters of Marah but God has to continually remind them of the positive side of the BIG If. It does seem however that we continually fall short of this positive goal and are drawn down to the negative aspects of human life.
Exodus 19:21 – The people must have had a tendency to “rubber neck”. When you take your attention off the thing that you are supposed to be doing then you might run into something that is harmful.
Exodus 19:25 – This is not the first time that Israel had to be told twice. We all need reminders of what we should be doing because of our own selfishness and warnings of dangers that we ignore.
Proverbs 5:8–14 – These verses are as one paragraph and almost caught me misunderstanding their message.
