Psalms 119:133 Order my steps in Your Word; and do not let any iniquity rule over me.
Bible Reading for January 11 (ONPP)
Matthew 5, Psalms 9
Matthew 5:3 – When you are weak and poor in the spirit and turn to God in trust then He opens up your understanding of His kingdom.
Matthew 5:4 – To truly mourn for our sin is a hard thing for those that don’t think of themselves as a bad sinner. We look at others and see more “wrong” in them and think of ourselves as better but we all have failed, turned away from God at some time, and made our pleasure our god. That is the sinfulness we should be in mourning of. When we reach the point that we realize our sin and its path to death God is there to offer His comfort of salvation so that we may choose eternal Life.
Matthew 5:5 – Our meekness is not to be toward man but God. Our pride should not be in ourselves but in God and His majesty. By Trusting Him and not ourselves He will have us to rule with Him.
Psalm 37:11 But the meek shall inherit the earth, and shall delight themselves in the overflowing of peace.
Matthew 5:6 – We go to Christ with a thirst for redemption as the Samaritan woman went to the well daily for water but Christ is able to spring up within us a flow of faith that fills us that we know we have redemption from sin. Yes, just as Abraham believed God and it was counted to him as righteousness so faith in God satisfies our hunger.
Matthew 5:7 – Mercy – Compassion – Love – Charity. God’s Love for us provides a substitute for the cost of sin for us to trust or deny. When we see His Love we are to follow His example and show mercy to others because of His love for us and them.
I Corinthians 13:1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I have become as sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal.
I Corinthians 13:2 And though I have prophecies, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so as to move mountains, and do not have charity, I am nothing.
I Corinthians 13:3 And though I give out all my goods to feed the poor, and though I deliver my body to be burned, and have not charity, I am profited nothing.
I Corinthians 13:4 Charity has patience, is kind; charity is not envious, is not vain, is not puffed up;
I Corinthians 13:5 does not behave indecently, does not seek her own, is not easily provoked, thinks no evil.
I Corinthians 13:6 Charity does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices in the truth,
I Corinthians 13:7 quietly covers all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
I Corinthians 13:8 Charity never fails. But if there are prophecies, they will be abolished; if tongues, they shall cease; if knowledge, it will be abolished.
Matthew 5:8 – The pure heart is one that is trusting in God’s salvation not the works of man.
Matthew 5:9 – Being a peacemaker at heart is difficult with those that do not trust God. Our heart must be void of offence; our presence must have a peaceable disposition and our voice have a peaceable conversation, while trying to repair the breaches.
Matthew 5:10-12 – The world persecuted Jesus and they will persecute us also because the world does not perceive life when they think of Jesus but they perceive condemnation and death.
John 15:20 Remember the word that I said to you, The servant is not greater than his master. If they have persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they have kept My saying, they will also keep yours.
