Matthew 26:31 – A prophecy fulfilled from Zechariah 13:7.
Matthew 26:40 – Now the disciples are sleeping as the storm gains strength and Jesus is the one that is calling on God’s help.
Matthew 26:54 – Matthew 5:18 For truly I say to you, Till the heaven and the earth pass away, not one jot or one tittle shall in any way pass from the Law until all is fulfilled.
Matthew 26:56 – A prophecy fulfilled from Psalms 38:11 and Isaiah 63:3.
Matthew 27:3 – Judas is sorrowful of his actions as Peter was also sorrowful over his denial. Peter however turned away from his denial and back to Jesus. Judas however did not have any hope for Jesus as the Son of God or his own life.
Matthew 27:9 – A prophecy fulfilled from Zechariah 11:12. (from Matthew Henry) How they are here said to be spoken by Jeremy is a difficult question; but the credit of Christ’s doctrine does not depend upon it; for that proves itself perfectly divine, though there should appear something human as to small circumstances in the penmen of it. The Syriac version, which is ancient, reads only, It was spoken by the prophet, not naming any, whence some have thought that Jeremy was added by some scribe; some think that the whole volume of the prophets, being in one book, and the prophecy of Jeremiah put first, it might not be improper, currente calamo – for a transcriber to quote any passage out of that volume, under his name. The Jews used to say, The spirit of Jeremiah was in Zechariah, and so they were as one prophet. Some suggest that it was spoken by Jeremiah, but written by Zechariah; or that Jeremiah wrote the ninth, tenth, and eleventh chapters of Zechariah.
Matthew 27:25 – It is good that the blood of Christ covers our sin. Would you have called for Jesus’s blood to be on you and your children thinking about it that way?
Matthew 27:35 – A prophecy fulfilled from Psalms 22:18.
Matthew 27:38 – A prophecy fulfilled from Isaiah 53:12.
Matthew 27:51 – The opening of the seat of God to the people was not done by man, from bottom to top but by God from top to bottom.
Matthew 27:52 – Many are raised from the dead as a prophecy witness that Jesus arose from death.
Matthew 27:54 – The Roman officer who was trained to only worship Caesar as the Egyptians worshiped their Pharaoh, saw all the evidence that was given during the crucifixion and believed in Jesus’s deity.
Matthew 27:61 – This shows us that the ladies followed to where Jesus was buried so they may return after the Sabbath to anoint His body.
Matthew 28:2 – Was the stone rolled away to let Jesus out? No, no one came out, Jesus had arisen, the open tomb was to show the people that He had risen.
Matthew 28:4 – The guards had fallen where they stood for fear of the angel.
Matthew 28:5 – The angel did not talk to the guards but gave comfort to the women.
Matthew 28:6 – The angel is encouraging the women to come and be a witness of the empty tomb.
Matthew 28:9 – I feel that the better translation would be that the women drew near to hold Him by His feet. This would be in accordance with John 20:17 when Jesus tells Mary Magdalene not to touch Him.
Matthew 28:19 – Jesus says to go teach.
Psalms 42:1 – After a long drought of God’s word in the life of the psalmist he is pining for the refreshing presence of His living water of the word.
Psalms 42:8 – God is not commanding His angels in this, He is not commanding His wrath in this, He is commanding His loving–kindness. The comfort of our salvation is the aroma of life to us that trust God but to those who deny Him hate and fight against it because they do not understand the promise of life but they smell their end, the agony of Hell.
Psalms 42:11 – Even though we are in great despair we need to keep true to God and trust in His provision as Daniel did for 21 days in his prayers for the people of Israel. Daniel 10:11
