II Timothy 2:15 Study earnestly to present yourself approved to God, a workman that does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth.
Chronological Bible Reading for December 7
Acts 20:1-3; Romans 1-3
Romans – 1–6 are filled with doctrine (catechism). These start in 1:1 where Paul defines himself as a servant, picked from many, and set apart for a specific task. 1:2 shows that God is faithful to keep His promise and does not change His purpose over time. Malachi 3:6. 1:3 states that Jesus is the Son of God and as promised come through the line of David. 1:4 Jesus was shown as set apart by His resurrection from the dead. 1:5 Not only Paul was called by Christ but we are also, we are called by Him personally and called to be obedient to His leadership and to encourage others to follow Him.
Romans 1:1 – The word doulos translated as servant can mean involuntary or voluntary. I picture it as one who has sold himself to pay a debt and has decided to stay a servant as described in Deuteronomy 15:16–17.
Romans 1:15 – Paul was eager to use what God had given him to tell others about God’s plan of salvation. We should also be eager to do the same with what have and He will increase our ability according to our eagerness.
Romans 1:16 – What are you the most proud of?
The good news of the substitutionary death, and the resurrection of Jesus, is a powerful message from God for our salvation.
Romans 1:17 – Habakkuk 2:4
Romans 1:18 – This is what we are saved from, not Hell but, the wrath of God, ungodliness, and unrighteousness.
Romans 1:20 – In today’s time man has hidden many of the glorious things of creation from himself. The lights of the cities reflect back down and wash out the heavens from our eyes. This is just an example of man’s sinful nature to reject God whether by nature or intent.
Romans 1:21 – So so sad.
Romans 1:24 – It is not God who tempts us or Satan but is ourselves.
Romans 1:32 – This pleasure of evil men ensnaring others to do evil things is the same that Satan has when he defiles God’s creation.
Romans 2:1 – Does the judge commit the crimes as the criminal does? That is something we do not expect to happen. The judge has a higher standard to live.
Romans 2:14 – You can ask anyone if it is right for you to break any of the commandments against them, ex. stealing from them, killing them, say lies about them, and they will say no.
Romans 2:17–29 – Revised for a “Christian”
Behold you are baptized and rest in Faith, and boast in God and know His will and approve the things excelling, being instructed out of Grace; and persuading yourselves to be a guide of the blind, a light to those in darkness; an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, who have the form of knowledge and of the truth in the Law.
Therefore the one teaching another, do you not teach yourself? The one preaching not to steal, do you steal? The one saying not to commit adultery, do you commit adultery? The one detesting idols, do you rob temples?
You who boast in baptism, do you dishonor God through breaking the Law? For the name of God is blasphemed among the nations because of you. For baptism truly profits if you keep the Law, but if you are a transgressor of the Law, baptism becomes disgraceful. If then the non–baptized keeps the ordinances of the Law, shall not his lack of baptism be counted as a baptism? The non– baptized as all naturally begin, if they keep the Law, shall it not judge you, who through grace and baptism become transgressors of the Law? For he is not a Christian who is one outwardly, nor is baptism that outwardly in flesh; but he is a Christian who is one inwardly, and faithfulness is of the heart; in spirit and not in work; whose praise is not from men, but from God.
Romans 2:21 – Yes, teaching a subject truthfully is the best form of learning.
Romans 3:2 – To be entrusted with the oracles of God is the honor that is detested by some and encouraged by others. As God trusted the Jews with the Law so we are trusted with Grace to uphold the results of repentance. Others will use any little failure in our life to degrade God but that is their disdain for Him.
Romans 3:11 – It is not us that seek God but God seeks and draws us toward Him. We may deny Him but it is His action toward us that begins our redemption.
Romans 3:20 – Is Paul saying that we also have eaten from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil?
