Psalms 119:133 Order my steps in Your Word; and do not let any iniquity rule over me.
Chronological Bible Reading for February 10
Exodus 33-35
Exodus 33:3 – Just like Pharaoh these people wanted their own way. These people were stiff necked, hard hearted, selfish, stubborn, prideful, unyielding, … The result of sin is as in the Garden of Eden, the loss of the presence of God.
Exodus 33:4 – appropriate reaction
Exodus 33:7 – The Tabernacle was set up outside the camp to keep the stiff–necked people safe from the Holy presence of God.
Exodus 33:11 – Joshua found something very important that meant so much to him that he stayed to get as much as he could.
Exodus 33:13 – The ways of God are confusing to those that do not know Him. Moses is asking God to reveal to him how to lead this group of people. For us to understand and follow God’s guidance we also need to pray like this asking Him to reveal to us His ways.
Exodus 33:14 – That is essentially the same thing that Jesus said to His disciples before His ascension. “…I am with you all the days until the end of the world.” (Matthew 28:20) God has not changed His ways.
Exodus 33:16 – Jehovah sets Israel apart from all other people by having evidence of His presence with them.
Exodus 33:19 – God makes His own choice about who He bestows mercy. God is not coerced by our actions of philanthropizing or showy worship, He is the one that gives us grace so that we can worship Him in truth from our heart. To read this is His way of approaching you with His mercy that you may choose to accept it.
Exodus 34:6 – God could have come down and wiped the people out but here He shows mercy and grace. The people deserved to die because of their sinful nature and rejection of God but God knows that all the peoples’ sinfulness is not fulfilled as the Amorites is about to be. (Gen 15:16)
Exodus 34:7 – Yes, your actions do determine how your children are raised and taught and that learning is passed down from generation to generation.
Exodus 34:10 – This is not a new covenant but just a revealed part of God’s plan that is new to the world.
Exodus 34:12 – This verse is so important that Israel forgot to include it in their examination of those they met.
Exodus 34:15–16 – Don’t tell me that God does not know what is about to happen. This is exactly what Israel will do because their hearts are not turned toward God.
Exodus 34:26 – As in Exodus 23:19 – God has a sense of humor! The Jews have made this a reason to not eat meat and milk together. In Genesis 18:8, Abraham gave the LORD milk, butter, and meat in the same meal without any sign of division! However, if you look at the meaning of the Hebrew words then it could show that the first–born kid of the herd must be weaned before it is brought to sacrifice, bringing significance to the words just before. This means that you have to invest the time to raise the kid and forego the milk that the mother would make for the kid.
Lev 22:18 Speak to Aaron and to his sons and to all the sons of Israel, and say to them: Any man of the house of Israel, or of the strangers in Israel, who offers his sacrifices for his vows, for all his free–will offerings, which they will offer to Jehovah for a burnt offering,
Lev 22:19 you shall offer at your own will a male without blemish, of the cattle, of the sheep, or of the goats.
Lev 22:20 You shall not offer that which has a blemish. For it shall not be acceptable for you.
Lev 22:21 And when a man offers a sacrifice of peace offerings to Jehovah to carry out his vow, or a free–will offering in cattle or sheep, it shall be without blemish to be accepted. There shall be no blemish in them.
Lev 22:22 Blind, or broken, or maimed, or having a running sore, or having scurvy, or scabbed, you shall not offer these to Jehovah, nor make an offering by fire of them on the altar to Jehovah.
Lev 22:23 As to a young bull or a sheep that is deformed or dwarfed, you may offer that for a free–will offering. But for a vow it shall not be accepted.
Lev 22:24 You shall not offer to Jehovah that which is bruised or crushed, or broken or cut. You shall not make any offering of it in your land.
Lev 22:25 And you shall not offer the bread of your God out of the hand of a son of a stranger, or any of these, because their uncleanness is in them, and blemishes are in them. They shall not be accepted for you.
Lev 22:26 And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,
Lev 22:27 When a bull or a lamb or a goat is brought forth, then it shall be seven days under the dam. And from the eighth day and from then on, it shall be accepted for a fire offering to Jehovah.
Lev 22:27 note – This practice gives the dam time to fully come into milk to provide that milk for the family and represents the week of creation including the day of rest.
Lev 22:28 But a bull or sheep, it and its young one, you shall not kill it in one day.
Exodus 34:29 – Even though Moses had not seen God’s face God’s presence nearby was still reflecting from him as he went down to minister to Israel.
Exodus 35:3 – Maybe this is part of the reason for the sentence of death for the man that went out to gather sticks to cook with. If the fire is already hot are they allowed to add wood?
Exodus 35:5 – If your offering is not from a willing heart then you are not putting God first you are putting something else first whether it is your pride, your perceived social position or just thinking you will get a reward from God.
Exodus 35:7 – Why would God use badgers sins? Badgers are not a clean animal. The reference to the word translated badgers here means a type of antelope which does chew it’s cud and have a split hoof, and is therefore a clean animal.
Exodus 35:21 – God can do more with a willing heart than a multitude of offerings. It is better to obey God than have many sacrifices. I Samuel 15:22.
